The majority of weapons and armour are crafted from iron and carbon steel. However, other materials may be employed for their special properties. Each alloy below presents the following characteristics:
Cost: Adjust the price of weapons and armour made from the alloy by this value.
Encumbrance: Adjust the coin weight of weapons and armour made from the alloy by this value.
Modifier: The alloy's non-magical adjustment to Armour Class (for armour) or attack and damage rolls (for weapons). While non-magical, weapons made from the alloy count as magical weapons for purposes of hitting creatures immune to mundane damage, though they do not detect as magical.
Elven steel
A light alloy with incredible resilience, elven steel may be found in elven ruins or within the forges of the Ardic Republic.
Alloy | Cost | Encumbrance | Modifier |
Elven steel | n/a | Halved (armour is one weight class lower if using basic encumbrance) | None |
High steel
Named for its carbon content, high steel is lighter and stronger than normal steel. It is worked exclusively by the Midlanders, who reserve it for the Sultans' bloodlines and accomplished warriors.
Alloy | Cost | Encumbrance | Modifier |
High steel | 10gp / coin weight | Normal | +1 |
Meteoric steel
Metals extracted from bodies outside Trid's atmosphere may be alloyed to produce meteoric steel.
Alloy | Cost | Encumbrance | Modifier |
Meteroric steel | 100gp / coin weight | Normal | +2 |
Deep steel
Metals harvested from fathomless subterranean veins, deep steel is essentially unbreakable and the exclusive province of dwarfs.
Alloy | Cost | Encumbrance | Modifier |
Deep steel | n/a | Normal | +3 |
Cold iron
Though less durable than steel, pure, or "cold" iron has power over fey creatures such that they cannot wield magic for one round after contact.
Alloy | Cost | Encumbrance | Modifier |
Cold iron | x2 | Doubled (cold iron armour is "heavy" if using basic encumbrance) | +1 vs. Fey, plus prevents them from using magic for a full round; cold iron armour provides +1 bonus to saves against Fey attacks |
