  • Ambush: Uses 4 tentacles to anchor itself to cavern ceilings, walls, stalactites, etc., awaiting prey to grab with its remaining 4 tentacles (range: 10’).
  • Surprise: On a 1–4, due to camouflage.
  • Tentacles: Each may attack its own target, constricting after a hit. Each constricting tentacle inflicts 1d4 automatic damage per round, plus a –1 penalty to attacks.
  • Beak: Reserved for melee foes or constricted victims with less than 10hp.
  • Severing tentacles: Requires a hit with a cutting weapon inflicting 4 or more damage (does not count against the monster’s hit point total).
  • Flash: When escaping, can emit the equivalent of a light spell to blind foes as it slithers away at double its normal speed. Those in melee must save vs. spells or be blinded for 1 turn.
