Over three hundred years ago, the Dentherion Empire began its conquest of Theyndora. To keep the conquered peoples subdued, they gifted their puppet rulers with advanced tech, made it illegal for everyone else to use it, and harshly dealt with anyone who defied those laws.
But generations of mining aquatheerdaal, the power source underlying all modern tech, has depleted the resource. When the last mine runs dry and the supply crashes, so, too, do the governments and institutions that rely on it--and that, in turn, affects countries on the continents of Pelthine, Theyndora and Siindernorth.
Syndicates and rebellions, religions and corporations, see opportunity for overthrowing the empire and its puppet rulers. The commoner is caught between them and the frantic monarchs who do not want to give up their thrones.
Lapis and her companions arrive on Dentherion soil just as the heat turns up high enough to shatter the bonds holding the empire together. They must rescue the captured Shivers khentuaree, then return to Jilvayna and help their country weather the vicious storms.
