The Fall
Population Migration / Travel
In the millennia since the elves' departure from Trid, the details of the Retreat have grown into myth. What is real, however, is that it destoyed the Ardic Republic, plunging the Continent into chaos.
Predecessors
The
Ardic Curse compromised the elves' ability to wield arcane magic effectively, costing the elves' their leverage over humans. Pockets of unrest had always existed in the Republic, but elven hegemony discouraged outright rebellion. However, the elves' inability to wield arcane magic reliably emboldened the ambitious and discontent to challenge them. The elves adopted increasingly draconic measures to quell sedition, escalating the conflict into coordinated rebellion.

Aftermath
Human armies drove the elves back to
Alfland, where they were forced to surrender. They ceded their remaining territory to the
Alfmen and departed the Continent in a mass migration to the West known as the Retreat. It is assumed the elves sailed for the
Far Isles, though their fate beyond the horizon is not known, and divination magic cannot reveal their current whereabouts.
